2020 UNO Library Friends Distinguished Service Award Recipients

The UNO Library Friends group hosted their annual Distinguished Service Awards event via Zoom honoring two library employees for exemplary service to UNO Libraries.

Typically, each year the UNO Library Friends host a Distinguished Service Award Luncheon, in which one full-time library employee and one student library employee are awarded for their exemplary dedication and service to UNO Libraries. This year, the event transitioned to an online, Zoom format to honor the 2020 recipients.

This year’s library staff employee recipient was Lori Schwartz the Hagel Archivist in Archives and Special Collections. Lori's attention to detail, ideas grounded in archival best practices and sense of purpose make her a highly sought after team member. Her infectious positivity, cheerfulness, and team spirit have been an asset to those in her department, and the library as a whole.

Courtney Kilroy was selected as this year’s student library employee Distinguished Service Award recipient. Courtney has contributed so much to the library, including participating in the library Kindness Audit and taking on extra duties. She handles many multi-faceted questions with confidence, patience, and kindness.

In addition, one student is also selected to receive the Criss Library Academic Student Scholarship (CLASS). The scholarship recognizes and rewards library student workers for their service to Criss Library and supports their pursuit of educational goals.

This year’s CLASS scholarship recipient is Rose McCaffery, a senior majoring in Communications. Rose has a large passion for volunteering and being involved in campus activities. In her application form, she expressed how grateful she is that she can follow her passion because of the flexibility of her supervisor. Using her knowledge to help fellow classmates use library resources, Rose not only sees the library as somewhere she works but as a second home.
