Campus Support for Chairs and Directors
The college dean’s offices provide a great deal of information and guidance to chairs and directors. UNO also offers the following campus-wide support structures to assist chairs and directors in their duties and to promote networking among unit-level academic leaders.
Chairs and Directors Meetings – Monthly meetings organized by Faculty Affairs that provide an opportunity for chairs and directors to learn about campus-wide policies, practices, and initiatives. The meetings often include time for chairs and directors to ask questions and raise topics of interest with administrators. Contact Dr. Candice Batton for additional information.
Academic Administrator Training - A series of workshops intended to build skills for chairs/directors and other campus leaders.
Chairs and Directors Newsletter - A monthly newsletter from the Center for Faculty Excellence that highlights professional development and resources for chairs and directors and announcements that can easily be forwarded to faculty.
Faculty and Staff Training (FAST) – Human Resources and the Center for Faculty Excellence partner to provide multiple training sessions, many of which are pertinent to those in supervisory or leadership roles. FAST offerings are available through the Center for Faculty Excellence’s calendar (type FAST in the search bar).
Search Resources
The search process is central to recruiting a diverse faculty body and fostering an inclusive environment for faculty, students, and staff. Anybody serving on a faculty search committee is required to have attended a Faculty Search Training in the last two years.
If a committee member has completed the foundations course they are eligible to attend the advanced course to maintain their eligibility to serve on a search committee. If a committee member has not attended a foundations course, they are not eligible to attend the advanced course.

Mentoring
The Center for Faculty Excellence will be facilitating two new opportunities related to faculty mentoring. General mentor training is available for current academic mentors and individuals who wish to become mentors. The TANDEM program is open to second and third year full-time faculty who will be partnered with mentors outside their home academic unit who might share broader social and cultural affinities within our community of scholars.
This program is optional and designed to work in tandem with the mentoring that occurs in the faculty member's home unit. For a screen reader friendly version of the documents below, please contact the Center for Faculty Excellence.
