Emily Hassenstab serves as the Director of International Programs at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She has been with the department since 2009, and has worked as director beginning in 2020. In this role, she leads Education Abroad, International Student Advising, the Center for Afghanistan Studies, Global Grants, Intensive English Language, International Recruitment, and Global Partnerships. Prior to assuming the duties of Director, Emily served as UNO’s Manager of Education Abroad and Global Partnerships. She assisted UNO students with their study abroad plans, created faculty-led programs, and coordinated exchange agreements with UNO's partner universities around the world. Emily completed the Great Plains Leadership Institute through the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Public Health in 2019.
With 18 years of experience in international education, Emily has advised thousands of university students, collaborated with hundreds of faculty and staff, and co-created lasting and meaningful programming and partnerships to help reach UNO’s global goals.
Before coming to UNO in 2009, Emily worked as the study abroad advisor for the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism. She completed undergraduate degrees in International Business and International Studies, followed by a graduate degree in Public Administration at the University of Missouri-Columbia. As a student, she studied Business and Spanish language in Spain and Costa Rica.
