- Three Week January Session
This spring, UNO will offer it's first ever Three Week January Session, Jan. 3-21, 2022. One of the key goals of the session is to provide students with more experiential learning opportunities during a focused, three-week period. To support the selection of experiential learning courses available to Mavericks during the session, UNO Education Abroad is expanding their offerings to include U.S. based study away programming.
What is 'Study Away'?
Study Away is a term used to describe study abroad programs that do not take place abroad. These types of programs are based within the U.S. and its territories, without travel to a foreign destination. Study Away programs are an excellent opportunity for students and faculty to enhance their learning outside of Omaha, within the broad and diverse regions that make up the United States.
What Funding is Available?
UNO Education Abroad will select three study away proposals for the Three Week January Session to receive faculty expenses and development funding. Each course chosen will be awarded $3,000 to cover the travel expenses of the faculty leader and $2,000 for course development.
What Support is Available?
UNO Education Abroad offers the same types of support to study away program leaders as they do for study abroad. This includes arranging group flights, requesting contract bids, identifying partners, coordinating on travel logistics, managing the application portal, student form collection, insurance registration, faculty leader training, student advisement, marketing materials, budget creation, and so on. We collaborate with faculty to make their program a success and so that they can do what they do best- teach!
How Do I Apply?
Faculty can submit an initial program proposal using this Google Form by July 18.
On the form you can share your course ideas including topic, locations, activities, and travel dates. If you have questions regarding this form, study away programs, or the awards please contact Emily Krueger, Assistant Director of Global Learning, at ekrueger@unomaha.edu. We look forward to hearing your study away course ideas and providing support!
