UNO's pre-departure orientation is designed to help Maverick's prepare for their time abroad.
Pre-departure orientation includes two major components: the online course, and the in-person sessions.
The Online Course
The online portion of pre-departure orientation is offered through Canvas, and students can complete it at their own pace. The course is made up of five modules:
- Health Abroad
- Safety Abroad
- Cultural Adjustment
- Academics
- Final Preparations
Students will automatically be enrolled in the Canvas course after they 'Commit' to their program in the MavsAbroad Portal. For any student who would like to be enrolled in pre-departure orientation earlier in the process, please email unostudyabroad@unomaha.edu and include:
- Your name
- UNO email address
- When you plan to study abroad
- Request access to the course
Pre-departure orientation is a requirement to study abroad through UNO, and must be fully completed prior to departure.
In-Person Sessions
The in-person portion of pre-departure orientation builds further upon the information learned in the online course. Students will have the opportunity for Q&A with UNO Education Abroad staff and with recent study abroad alumni, who will share their tips and tricks for a successful experience abroad.
Global Courses and Pre-Departure Orientation
UNO Global Courses are taught by UNO professors and travel abroad together as a class. Because of the group nature of a Global Course, students participating in these programs will attend a group pre-departure orientation specific to their class.
Global Course students will receive pre-departure orientation details from their instructor, the UNO Education Abroad office, or both.
