Students Called to Active Military Service
The following policies help service members whose education is disrupted by orders for military service.
NU System - Memorandum 23 Students Called to Active Service
If you are currently enrolled in courses and are called to active military service, Memorandum 23 permits the student to cancel their registration for a full refund or request an Incomplete grade from instructors and complete the course upon their return.
Memorandum 23 is dependent on the student notifying their institution of the military orders for administrative processing.
UNO - Readmission for Students Called to Active Military Service
If you have been admitted to UNO and then are called to active military service and your records are deactivated, the readmission for students called to active military service allows you to request your records to be re-opened without a new application pending all requirements outlined within the policy are met.
The Readmission for Students Called to Active Military Service Policy is dependent on the student notifying their institution of the military orders prior to leaving or upon their return.

Residency for Tuition Purposes
Should a service member, Veteran, or military dependent be admitted to UNO as a "non-resident" student, there are three categories within the NU System policy that may qualify the individual for "residency for tuition purposes" based on current or former military service of the student or their sponsor.

Students Using Federal Tuition Assistance
The following are policies which align with Department of Defense Tuition Assistance regulations intended to protect the best interest of service members.
Return of Unearned Military Tuition Assistance
Military Tuition Assistance is awarded to a student under the assumption that the student will attend school for the entire term for which the assistance is awarded. When a student withdraws (officially or unofficially), the student may no longer be eligible for the full amount of tuition assistance funds originally awarded.
To comply with the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) policy, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) is required to return any unearned tuition assistance funds on a proportional basis through the 60% portion of the term for which the funds were provided.
Prohibition of Inducements, Commissions and High-Pressure Recruitment Tactics for Service Members
To ensure service members make informed choices about their pursuit of higher education, UNO will not offer inducements or commissions to staff or faculty for enrollment of DoD funded student enrollment. Nor will we allow high-pressure recruitment tactics towards service members for enrollments.
