International Academic Partnerships for Science and Security (IAPSS)
So What?
America's closest international allies have worked together globally to combat various threats. At a time of diminishing resources for the counterterrorism mission, it's imperative for the U.S. to collaborate with our closest allies on expanding research partnerships to develop terrorism and targeted violence knowledge.
Project Summary
This project will build an international knowledge exchange program to enhance collaboration and knowledge exchange between the U.S., U.K., and other international partners through a seminar series, an annual meeting, and an online magazine, plus the creation of Ph.D. scholarships and internship placements.
Purpose/Objectives
This program aims to improve knowledge sharing and collaboration across the international research and development apparatus, starting first with Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom and focusing on targeted violence and terrorism prevention (TVTP). The project will be co-led by NCITE and the U.K.-based Centre for Research and Evidence on Security Threats (CREST), with the objectives of deepening relationships across researchers in the TVTP domain, encouraging exchange of knowledge and methodological expertise between researchers and the public, and contributing to the development of the next generation of social and behavioral scientists working on prevention.
Method
The project's methodology is two-fold: knowledge exchange and capacity building. Knowledge exchange will occur through annual meetings, a bi-monthly seminar series, and a digital magazine on improving international counterterrorism practices. Capacity building will include creating Ph.D. scholarships and internship placements, developing an online platform to connect researchers working on similar topics, and establishing a small grant program for research projects with international collaborators.
