Dr. Doug Oxley, who located from Kansas, opened Companion Care Veterinary Clinic in Lincoln, Nebraska in August of 2009. The clinic provides veterinary services including basic spays and neuters, internal medicine, dermatology, soft tissue surgery, x-rays, orthopedic surgery, vaccinations and other preventative care, boarding, and some behavioral consultation services. Dr. Oxley has practiced veterinary medicine for 14 years.
Olxey requested assistance from the NBDC-Lincoln center in preparing financial projections for the first three years of clinic operations in order to apply for an SBA7A guaranteed loan through a local bank. Although Oxley had $122,814 of his own resources and was saving money by purchasing used equipment, he needed $350,000 additional funding to build the clinic.
Dr. Oxley was very diligent working with NBDC and the bank to provide sufficient data regarding his plans and operations. Consequently, a cohesive financial projection package was submitted to the bank and the loan application was approved.
Oxley has formed an advisory board that includes a banker, CPA, lawyer, service provider (NBDC-Lincoln service center) and an insurance agent. He is also taking steps to continue improving his marketing strategies and is forming new business alliances as referral sources for clients. His clinic currently employees two full-time and one part-time employees.
