OMAHA – Today, the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s (UNO) College of Business Administration (CBA) was named the best business school in the country for veterans in 2015 by the Military Times.
The ranking follows on the heels of UNO’s overall No. 1 ranking as a military-friendly school in November 2014.
With its inclusion in the rankings, UNO’s CBA stands out against other programs from across the country. Other ranked institutions included Syracuse University (No. 2), the University of Southern California (no. 9) and The Ohio State University (No. 14).
The Military Times’ “Best for Vets: Business Schools 2015” ranked 75 schools from across the nation for their support of veteran students. The survey looked at how many students were enrolled in each program and what levels of support they get in terms of tuition assistance and academic advising, as well as the average Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) scores across the school.
Student veterans have had a long history with the College of Business, dating back to the Bootstrapper program, which gave tuition support for veterans following World War II. The program started at Omaha University in 1951, just one year before the College of Business was formed in 1952.
"They're almost the ideal kinds of students, because ... our best students are the ones that come to us with significant experience," CBA Dean Louis Pol told the Military Times. "They come to us, they get a business perspective, and they go out, and they tend to be very successful."
UNO’s College of Business is also a major partner in the STRATCOM Strategic Leadership Fellows Program, which was launched in 2014 through the University of Nebraska’s Strategic Research Institute to help provide graduate-level education to civilian leaders from members of the United States Strategic Command, otherwise known as USSTRATCOM.
The UNO College of Business also works closely with UNO’s Office of Military and Veteran Services, which opened in 2012, to provide academic and professional guidance on making the transition to the classroom.
“To have UNO’s College of Business Administration recognized as the best in the country for their support of veterans is just outstanding, and speaks to the remarkable commitment the CBA faculty and staff have toward military-affiliated students,” said Mike Connolly, director of UNO’s Office of Military and Veteran Services. “It’s an honor to partner with them in support of veterans pursuing their education at UNO.”
