Dear Friends,
On behalf of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, I want to share our deep sadness about the events that have taken place in Nepal and neighboring regions over the past few days. Please know that the thoughts and concerns of the entire UNO community are with all of those who have been affected or have family and friends affected by this disaster.
Currently, students, faculty and staff from UNO are working to organize an international support effort to help the victims of this tragedy. Here are a few of the ways the UNO community can help:
Monetary Donations
We are asking that those looking to support the effort through monetary donations to do so through one or more of the following outlets:
University of Nebraska Foundation
- Money will go to help supply a response team from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Nebraska Medicine
- Donations will support a long-term response strategy for the area
- Updates for the UNMC/Nebraska Medicine Nepal relief effort can be seen at the Yammer Nepal Relief Group and UNMC's Nepal Relief page.
Facebook
- 100 percent of proceeds will go to International Medical Corps and their work in response to the Nepal Earthquake.
- Facebook will also donate $2 million to local relief efforts
- User friendly, donate with credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover) or PayPal
Charity: Water
-100 percent of proceeds will go to Nepal’s earthquake disaster relief effort
- Funding will provide clean water, food, shelter, sanitation, hygiene and emergency care for the injured.
- Long term, support will help the country rebuild infrastructure
- Charity: Water already has existing network and partnerships in Nepal from previous projects in the region.
- User friendly, donate with credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover) or PayPal
Additionally, we are asking any students, faculty or staff who feel like they may need emotional support during this time to please make use of our Counseling Center. Please contact them at 402.554.2409.
Any volunteers looking for other ways to provide help should contact the Office of Civic and Social Responsibility at 402.554.4083 or drop by their offices just inside the Weitz Community Engagement Center.
Please continue to monitor our website, unomaha.edu, and our social media pages for updates. We will share any new information as soon as it becomes available.
