As of Monday, June 1, UNO’s Campus Security office will be known as the UNO Public Safety Department and will be led by UNO’s new Public Safety Director, Charlotte Evans.
The move, which includes the hiring of Evans from her previous position as Director of Patrol Operations for the UNL Police, is a reflection of UNO’s focus on campus-wide safety initiatives of facilities security and personal safety.
“It’s an honor to be selected to join UNO and have the chance to work with those who are already so committed to the safety of campus,” Evans said. “I’m excited to get started and begin meeting with members of UNO to develop priorities moving forward.”
Prior to being hired as UNO’s Public Safety Director, Evans had spent the past 20 years at UNL, advancing from a police officer and shift sergeant to Assistant Chief of UNL’s police department.
Prior to Evans’ hiring, UNO had expanded its security efforts to also include two school resource officers: Capt. Michael Murphy and Sgt. Gerald Baggett, both coming from the ranks of the Omaha Police Department.
The UNO Public Safety Department is part of UNO Support Services, which also includes Parking Services, Environmental Health and Safety and Mail Services. The Director of UNO Support Services is Stan Schleifer.
UNO Support Services is a division of UNO Business and Finance, which is led by Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance Bill Conley.
For questions about the new department or UNO public safety efforts, please contact the Support Services office at 402.554.3596. Charlotte Evans can be reached at 402.554.2648.
