The University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) is an Official Gold Partner of the 2015 State Games of America (SGA), which takes place July 28-Aug. 2 in Lincoln, Omaha and surrounding communities.
Events at UNO
UNO’s Sapp Fieldhouse will host three of the events including Badminton, Taekwondo and the non-competitive Walk-Omaha event. Students, faculty, staff are encouraged to get involved as volunteers.
“We’re pleased and grateful for the support of UNO as a host and sponsor of the State Games of America,” SGA Executive Director Dave Mlnarik said. “We are also excited to help promote UNO to the 40,000 athletes and guests coming in for the Games.”
More than 7,000 athletes have already registered, including national qualifiers from 46 states and host-state entries from 190 different Nebraska communities.
"We are excited to support and be host to such a wide variety of athletes across the country, as well as their supporters" UNO Chancellor John Christensen said. "Representing the city of Omaha and the state of Nebraska as host for this year's games is truly a privilege."
Top five states include Nebraska (4,205), Iowa (302), Kansas (270), Texas (254) and Wisconsin (158). Four states yet to be represented include Hawaii, Maine, Vermont and West Virginia.
The largest five sports thus far include Track & Field (638), Soccer (630), Swimming (473), Figure Skating (451) and Basketball (427).
"Throughout the school year we are home to some of the nation's best athletes and we are thrilled to be able to invite hundreds more to campus this summer" UNO Vice Chancellor for Athletics Trev Alberts said. "Our home is their home."
Registration closed July 1 for the 9th and largest-ever edition of the national multi-sport festival, competition is offered in 67 sports and all athletes receive a shirt and Super Pass, which includes admission to Opening Ceremonies, two Athlete Villages and all competition venues.
