OMAHA – The public is invited to a free event full of fun family activities. Omaha’s third annual Lights On Afterschool celebration is set for Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s (UNO) Sapp Fieldhouse.
Lights On AfterSchool highlights programs in the Omaha area that provide after-school opportunities for children and youth. Families can visit exhibits, participate in hands-on activities and enjoy a talent show.
As a proud partner of the event, UNO’s Office of STEM and student-run group NE STEM 4U will have a major presence at the Sapp Fieldhouse, hosting a total of 22 tables with hands-on activities ranging from robots to bubble kits.
The AfterSchool Alliance launched Lights On After School as a national event in Oct. 2000. Omaha Collective for Youth, UNO, Omaha Public Schools and Mayor Jean Stothert’s Office coordinate the local celebration. Mayor Jean Stothert and UNO Chancellor John Christensen plan to attend.
