OMAHA – The new year started on a high note for UNO Television Producer and Director B.J. Huchtemann.
Huchtemann, a regular contributor for The Reader, received the Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards’ (OEAA) Lifetime Achievement Award in Music on Sunday, Jan. 17.
Huchtemann has been covering the local blues and roots music scene since the early 1990s, and writing for The Reader for nearly 20 years. Her column, Hoodoo, has appeared regularly for nearly 14 years.
The award comes hot on the heels of another significant award for Huchtemann. In 2015, the Blues Foundation in Memphis honored her with the prestigious “Keeping the Blues Alive Award for Journalism,” in recognition of her dedication to furthering local, regional and national blues and roots artists and their music.
UNO was well represented at the OEA Awards. Steven Williams won in the Outstanding Scenic Design category for UNO Theatre’s production of “Hedda Gabler.” Sharon Sobel won in the Outstanding Costume Design for UNO Theatre’s production of “Freakshow.” UNO alumna Kim Reid Kuhn won in the Best 2D Artist category.
