A Note from the Co-Chairs of the Investiture Planning Committee, Jenny Reeser and Jackie Ostrowicki:
Dear University of Nebraska Staff,
On behalf of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, you are invited to the Presidential Investiture Ceremony and Reception that will be held on Friday, April 15, in Lincoln. We hope you'll honor Dr. Bounds and the University by attending the investiture ceremony and celebrating with us at the reception afterward.
"This is a chance to celebrate Dr. Bounds' leadership to date and share in his vision moving forward. Given his commitment to the academic enterprise and his focus on students, I am looking forward to great things." - Kent Schroeder, Chair, NU Board of Regents
An investiture ceremony is one of the oldest traditions in academia. Originated in English universities and modeled after knighthood ceremonies, investiture comes from the Latin phrase, "dress in robe." It symbolizes a leader taking on the university's insignia and regalia and representing the institution. Since the Middle Ages, this ceremony has symbolized the pursuit of knowledge.
The schedule of investiture activities is as follows:
Investiture Ceremony:
Friday, April 15 | 10:00 - 11:30 A.M.
Kimball Recital Hall
1113 R Street
Lincoln, NE 68588
Investiture Reception:
Friday, April 15 | Immediately following the ceremony
Van Brunt Visitors Center
313 N 13th Street
Lincoln, NE 68508
If you'd like to attend, please RSVP here. (As a note, this event is open to the public, so feel free to pass this invitation on!)
For those unable to attend, the investiture ceremony will livestream online - and broadcast on television from NET World and on your campus radio stations. Details can be found here.
Leading up to the event, we hope you'll take to Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to share video greetings, photos, and well-wishes using #HankBounds16.
As co-chairs of the Investiture Planning Committee, we're excited that this special event is drawing near. We hope you'll be able to join us!
