MAVERICK VILLAGE SENIOR RESIDENT ASSISTANT | Kayla Timm, Building K
Grade: SeniorHometown: Omaha
Major: Mathematics
How long have you been an RA?
I am currently in my third and last year as an RA.
Why did you choose to become an RA?
I chose to become an RA because I really liked the programming aspect and I thought I could help build a better community within housing.
What is the most rewarding part about being an RA?
For me, the most rewarding part about being an RA is the relationships I have built across campus, within housing, and with my residents.
What has been the best part about living on campus?
The best part about living on campus is the convenience. I also think that it makes it so much easier to get involved on campus.
What has been the best part of this year for you?
The best part of this year for me has been getting to make connections with a new set of residents. Most of my residents now are upperclassmen so sometimes it took a lot more work to build those relationships, but it has been a very rewarding experience.
UNIVERSITY VILLAGE SENIOR RESIDENT ASSISTANT | Amanda Maxwell, Building 3 High
Grade: SeniorHometown: Lincoln, Nebraska
Major: Physical Education with an endorsement in health
How long have you been an RA?
This is my second year as an RA, and my first year as the Senior RA.
Why did you choose to become an RA?
I chose to become an RA because it was a great opportunity to meet a variety of people. My first two years of college I didn't make a whole lot of connections with people, and I felt like I wasn't getting the full experience UNO had to offer. Becoming an RA changed all of that. I work with a staff who have become some of my best friends, and I've met so many people that have made my time in Omaha more enjoyable.
What is the most rewarding part about being an RA?
Building connections and helping students find their place on campus. I know how hard it can be when you are new to campus to figure things out and make new friends. I can only hope that I can serve as a resource to students as they find their new home at UNO.
Why should someone else consider becoming an RA or getting involved?
This job has been the most rewarding experience I have had at UNO. I have built lasting friendships through other staff members and met so many different people who have not only changed my perspective on the world, but also my life. Since becoming an RA, I have grown as a leader and have become more confident in myself. As an RA or even getting involved makes coming to school more enjoyable, and has given me opportunities of a lifetime. I highly recommend this job to any student who wants to improve their time here and UNO!!
