From OMavs.com - Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens will represent the Omaha track & field team at the NCAA West Preliminaries in Lawrence, Kan. on Friday, May 27.
Ahrens will be competing in the high jump, the event she won at the Summit League Championship on May 13 with a leap of 5-07. In doing so, she was named to the All-Summit Team.
Ahrens is the first female Omaha athlete to qualify for NCAA championship competition and the second UNO athlete overall to earn their way into the NCAA championship.
Ahrens posted a personal-best mark of 5-11 ¼ in the high jump at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 15. It was the best mark in the event in the Summit League this season, and it puts her in a tie for 15th nationally heading into the preliminaries.
The distance is just one-quarter inch from tying the school record set by Kathie-Lee Laidley during the 2013 season.
Ahrens already owns Omaha’s indoor high jump record of 5-10 ¾ which she set during her freshman season in 2015.
The top 12 athletes in each event at both the West and East Preliminary will advance to the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championship in Eugene, Ore. on June 8-11.
