This fall, the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) and Academic Partnership for Instruction (API) are offering technology sessions for faculty and staff.
Learning Styles in Online Courses
Wednesday, September 14 | 9-11 A.M. | Kayser Hall 543
Online courses have the potential to provide quality education to learners who may not be able to attend traditional on-campus courses due to geographical, physical or time constraints but we know that not all online learners learn in the same ways. Developing quality courses that reach a range of learners and their preferred learning styles means that faculty need to take into account the differences among learners in addition to playing to the strengths offered by an online environment. This hands-on course will provide ideas and best-practice recommendations for creating robust and engaging learning modules that can be incorporated into courses appealing to a wider range of learners than ever before. Attendees will have an opportunity to discuss ideas with their colleagues as well as learn how to build activities into their courses. Basic knowledge of Blackboard is essential.
Lunch and Learn: What is Panopto?
Friday, September 30 | 12-1 P.M. | Kayser Hall 538
Join us for a brief demonstration of our new Video Content Management (VCM) system, Panopto. We will also discuss the advantages of using video in your courses and how Panopto integrates into Blackboard.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to describe the advantages of using video and specifically using a VCM system, explain the set-up necessary to use Panopto within their Blackboard course, gain familiarity with basic Panopto features, and locate help for implementing and using Panopto.
Bring your lunch, and we’ll provide the cookies and drinks.
Finding the Right Tool for the Pedagogical Goal
Wednesday, October 12 | 9-11 A.M. | Kayser Hall 543
Have you ever found yourself wondering if there really is an app for that? If your “that” is a pedagogical concern or dilemma then chances are the answer is “yes!” Join us as we discuss and dive into a variety of different tools that will help you achieve your classroom goals, be it brick and mortar or virtual.
Creating Flipped Content
Wednesday, November 16 | 9-11 A.M. | Kayser Hall 543
Faculty increasingly find themselves with more content to cover and less classroom time for their students to interact. Creating a flipped environment, one where students work with lecture materials and independent activities outside of regular class time, frees up time when students are together and allows for collaborative activities such as group work and discussions. During this interactive session, we will explore ways to create content for students to consume via Blackboard. Basic knowledge of Blackboard is recommended.
Register for these sessions at is.unomaha.edu/calendar.
All events are open to UNO faculty and staff. Prerequisites or previous experience may be necessary. Because workshops are tailored to assist those who teach, Graduate and Teaching Assistants are also welcome.
