UNO Professor, Alumni Among Tribute to Women Honorees

OMAHA – Three Mavericks will be recognized at the Women's Center for Advancement (WCA's) 30th annual Tribute to Women. The event is set for Tuesday, June 13.

The WCA's list of 10 distinguished honorees includes University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Assistant Professor Sofia Jawed-Wessel, as well as UNO alumni Maria Vazquez and Kristin Williams.

Jawed-Wessel is an Assistant Professor in UNO's School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, and she is the Associate Director of the Midlands Sexual Health Research Collaborative. Her research focuses on understanding and improving the sexual health of women and couples as they transition into parenthood.

Vazquez is Associate Vice President of Student Affairs at Metropolitan Community College. Williams is Director of Community Initiatives at the Sherwood Foundation.

The WCA's Tribute to Women Awards have become one of the most prestigious honors in Omaha. They recognize local women's impact on the community.
