Nationally Ranked Program Gets New Name
The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Bachelor of General Studies is getting a new name.
Beginning with the 2017 fall semester, the name of the degree is changing to the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies.
Gina Toman, assistant dean of the College of Public Affairs and Community Service, says the new name will better serve students by more accurately portraying the content, structure, and marketability of the degree.
“Since its 1951 inception at UNO, the program has given students the opportunity to study multiple disciplines of their choice; in other words, design their own degree. This new name does a better job reflecting that unique dynamic,” Toman said. “Our students graduate equipped with a multifaceted education that prepares them for career advancement, graduate school, and other personal and professional aspirations.”
With courses available both on-campus and online, students living across the United States have pursued this degree. U.S. News and World Report ranks the online degree as one of the best in the nation.
