Due to an environment of increasing security risks, UNO Information Technology Services (ITS) will be implementing changes to help mitigate and eliminate security threats. One change, which may be occasionally noticed by users, will be weekly software patching. This will ensure that all ITS supported machines have the latest-known vulnerabilities patched within a reasonable time.
Weekly patching on Sunday mornings, around 2 A.M., will be conducted. All patching will take place during that time. It is likely your machine will be restarted. It is highly recommended that you save all your work before you log out for the final time each week. You will not have to worry about leaving your computer powered on, as all desktops will be turned on automatically to receive these updates.
Additionally, patching will be performed for users with mobile devices (laptops, Windows tablets). If the device is on and connected to the network during this time, it will receive any updates available, and may also restart.
