Don Leuenberger, special assistant to Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., is taking on a new responsibility in his current role.
UNO and UNMC leaders announced Tuesday, July 25 that Leuenberger will advise Dr. Gold in business and finance matters as both universities undergo a transition of leadership in business and finance.
Leuenberger will draw on decades of finance experience in his expanded role. He most recently served as UNMC’s vice chancellor for business and finance from 1988 to 2015, and prior to that, worked in a variety of roles related to the state budget, including two stints as Nebraska Tax Commissioner.
In his role as vice chancellor, Leuenberger was responsible for all campus facilities, budget, human resources, information technology, finance/business services, security and legal service.
“Don Leuenberger has been an integral part of the growth of UNMC over the past three decades, and he has continued to offer his invaluable expertise in the two years since he stepped away from his position as vice chancellor,” Dr. Gold said. “He is the perfect person to help with this transition, and his knowledge and experience will be invaluable as we examine the needs of both UNMC and UNO.”
Leuenberger will work with leadership teams on both campuses during this transition. Dr. Gold said he will continue to communicate with the campus over the next months regarding plans for future business and finance leadership at UNO and that input from the campus will continue to be an important part of the process.
