Jay Killion, Assistant Director of Special Projects with Information Technology Services, was recently named UNO’s Employee of the Month for October.
The Celebration Committee surprised Jay with the award on Tuesday, October 17, 2017.
Jay was nominated by his peers for his communication and leadership skills during the removal of UNO’s 300-foot radio and TV tower that was located at the center of campus.
They noted, “Jay was extremely flexible to the changes in weather conditions, demands from the cellular carriers and departments that needed access to the buildings.”
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime job, there is no template for this project,” his peers continued, “Jay created a safety zone and worked closely with the contractors, public safety, parking and the departments affected to successfully and safely remove the tower from the campus, and in doing so, removed a potential safety hazard for those in the drop zone.”
Jay was also active in helping with the OneIT Initiative. The initiative helped form a unified ITS division aligning to the strategic needs of the University of Nebraska as well as the campuses, including UNO.
For being nominated as Employee of the Month, Jay will receive a certificate, lapel pin, hot/cold tumbler, portrait, monetary award, two tickets to a UNO sporting event and use of a designated parking space.
To nominate an employee, print and complete the nomination form and send it through campus mail to the Office of Human Resources, 205 EAB.
