The Office of Student Affairs at UNO has named Becky Jacobs interim director of the Accessibility Service Center (ASC). Jacobs took on the role in June.
Jacobs, an accessibility specialist for UNO ASC, has a Master of Science degree in educational psychology. In her role as an accessibility specialist, Jacobs works with current and incoming students to develop accommodation plans and provides accommodation related consultation and support to faculty and staff.
In addition to her work at UNO, Jacobs provided developmental support for adolescent populations and their families at the YWCA (WCA), Boys Town and Cooper Village.
She will be filling a role previously held by Anne Heimann, who recently left UNO for a role in the public-school sector to help special education students prepare for life in college. Heimann had overseen UNO ASC since 2014, first as interim director and then as director.
“My main focus during this transition is to ensure that we maintain the same quality of care that our office has always had in order to make sure our students have equal access,” Jacobs said. “I would like to thank Anne for the tremendous work done at, and contributions made to, UNO and the Omaha and surrounding communities during her time at UNO.”
A national search for determining a permanent director is being led by Cathy Pettid, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs. Pettid is leading a search committee made up of representation from students, faculty and staff across campus.
“We are incredibly lucky to have a professional with Becky’s experience and breadth of knowledge in this role as we search for a new director,” Pettid said. “I am grateful to her for her vigilance in leading the office during this time of transition.”
Students, faculty or staff should continue to contact UNO ASC with any accessibility-related questions by calling 402.554.2872 or by emailing unoaccessibility@unomaha.edu.
