UNO Dance Team has their eyes on the prize. The group of 15 dedicated dancers is determined to make this season their best yet, and to do so, they spent their summer preparing.
Dance Team Auditions wrapped up in April, and after a month off to get through finals and have a taste of summer vacation, the dance team was back practicing the first week of June. The team conditioned, worked on technique, started preparing their sideline routines for the upcoming athletics season, and polished their home routine for camp.
In July, they made their first appearance at UDA Camp at the University of Central Missouri, where they spent three long days focusing on team technique, learning material for game days, and being evaluated by a staff representing some of the top collegiate dance programs in the country. The late nights, sore muscles, and shortened summer vacation paid off. The team received a 1st Place for their Home Routine, choreographed by senior captain Emily Stephenson. They also earned the Collegiate Recognition Award, Superior Award, all Superiors for individual evaluations, and the Outstanding Game Day Award given to the team with the strongest performance of a game day experience (fight song, sideline, chant, and timeout routine) based on material learned on the first night of camp and evaluated only two days later.
Camp may be over, and summer may be coming to an end, but the UNO Dance Team is still hard at work. The rest of their summer weekends will be dedicated to polishing routines for their first performance at the Omaha Classic on Aug. 11, preparing for nationals, and kicking off the school year at Durango Days.
