Govain-Nelson Finds Greater Purpose at UNO

UNO sophomore Anngalisia Govain-Nelson has always been a natural leader. Being involved as a student helps her harness her leadership abilities in ways she never could have imagined.
“I’ve learned how to communicate with others,” Anngalisia said. “It’s taught me a lot about my leadership skills, being around people with different backgrounds and seeing how everyone strives for the same goal and end result.”
Anngalisia is studying creative fiction writing and minoring in black studies, is a Thompson Learning Community student, the director and head choreographer for the Kuumba Dance Troupe, the vice president of Black Excellence and is also involved with College Possible. That’s a lot for a sophomore.
“Involvement is being present and doing your part for a greater purpose, there is something about being able to provide my help to a larger, greater purpose,” she added.
She couldn’t think of a better place to grow, either.
“UNO is unique because of all the different people,” she said. “We are extremely diverse in every aspect. We have something for everybody.”
