The UNO Dance Team traveled to Minneapolis, MN this past weekend to take part in the UDA Spirit of America Competition at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The team has been preparing for this event since August, and has worked tirelessly to perfect their pom and jazz routines, even spending time over winter break to condition and rehearse.
Regionals is their first competitive event of the year. Not many college teams take advantage of the regional competitions, but the UNO Dance Team feels like its benefits are invaluable as they prepare for UDA College Nationals in Orlando in a few weeks. It not only gives them the opportunity to perform, but also receive critiques from judges to help them get new insight on aspects of their routines.
It was a head to head showdown in both of their divisions and UNO came up victorious in both. In Division I Pom, they were up against North Dakota State University. Placing above NDSU was a big accomplishment since they brought home 3rd place at last year’s nationals. In jazz they faced off with South Dakota State University, and once again came out on top.
The team now has less than 2 weeks to prepare before they head to Nationals on Jan. 17. You can catch a preview of their pom, jazz, and game day routines they will compete at nationals by attending their Nationals Send Off on Jan. 15 that 7:30 P.M. at Sapp Fieldhouse (admission is free).
