On Jan. 1, 2019, the University of Nebraska transitioned to a new third party administrator for medical coverage: UMR. While UMR has a similar network as the previous administrator, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska, they are not identical.
For benefits-eligible employees who are now covered under UMR, but have found that their provider is not considered in-network, UNO's Office of Human Resources encourages applying for Continuity of Care consideration by the deadline of Thursday, Feb. 28, and to ask these providers to join the UMR Network.
Continuity of Care
The Continuity of Care, or Transition of Care, process will allow benefits eligble employees to see an out of network provider for up to six months and have any claims during that time will be processed at the in-network medical plan benefit level.
The form to apply is available on the Human Resources website. The deadline to complete the form is Thursday, Feb. 28.
To be eligible, an employee must have been, and continue to be, under a treatment plan by a physician who was a member of the previous network. In order to ensure continuity of care for certain medical conditions already under treatment, the in-network medical plan benefit level may continue for six months for conditions approved as transitional care.
