UNO Professor Among Great Plains IDeA-CTR Newest Pilot Awardees

The Great Plains IDeA-Clinical Translational Research (GP-CTR) Network has announced its newest pilot awardees.

The goal of the Pilot Program, administered through a National Institutes of Health/ National Institute of General Medical Sciences grant, is to provide support to the most promising and novel clinical and translational research (CTR) projects, and help investigators obtain preliminary data necessary for successful investigator-initiated extramural grants.

To achieve this goal, selected scientists and health professionals are provided up to $50,000 to assist initial research efforts, for one year.

A total of 23 individuals were funded by this program including Dr. Jon Youn, a professor in UNO's College of Information Science & Technology.

Dr. Youn's project will focus on the elderly and the dangers of falls while in the home. The proposed system will take a look at developing an an assistive technology for preventing falls and enable the elderly to maintain the highest level of functioning possible for independent living.

Of the twenty-two additional investigators from the Great Plains IDeA-CTR partner institutions were chosen, 10 are from University of Nebraska Medical Center, 2 from Boys Town National Research Hospital, 4 from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 3 from University of South Dakota, 2 from the University of North Dakota, and 1 from North Dakota State University.
