Each year, UNO PRSSA chooses local nonprofit organizations, and members volunteer their time and talent for the organizations’ benefit. This year, five PRSSA members chose to volunteer social media efforts and fitting room expertise.
“This was the second time I have volunteered social media work,” said Ravyn Daniel, PRSSA vice president of public relations. “I think it is important to give back to our community, and this was a great way to do that.”
Max I. Walker Cleaners & Launderers hosts Ultra Chic Boutique, an annual event that sells formal dresses for $30 and donates all proceeds to a local nonprofit. This year’s proceeds went to the Nebraska Alzheimer’s Association Chapter, a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing Alzheimer’s care, support and research efforts.
Three of the five PRSSA students created Facebook Live posts, Instagram content and compelling tweets to remain in the public’s eye during the event. Television stations KETV NewsWatch 7 and WOWT 6 News and radio stations Channel 94.1 and Star 104.5 made an appearance to cover the event.
Ultra Chic Boutique began in 2007 with a few hundreds of dresses in a small location. Now, the event has thousands of dresses, a fashion show, and the Dress Flip, where designers recreate a dress and compete for the most unique design.
