Dear Colleagues:
We have recently learned that President Hank Bounds has announced his decision to leave the University of Nebraska. I am sure that we here at UNO wish him and his family the very best as he makes this transition and begins the next phase of what has been an incredible career of strong leadership in K-12 and higher education.
We are also very grateful to him for his time with us here in Nebraska, stewarding the University of Nebraska through the recent challenging times and continuing to build upon the strengths of our enduring legacy. His impact upon the UNO campus over the past years has been very significant and will be enduring for decades to come.
On a more personal note, working directly with President Bounds has been an incredible honor. His knowledge and experience have benefitted us all. His friendship and camaraderie and that of his wonderful family have been a true treasure. My family and I extend our most heartfelt gratitude and very best wishes as they together continue upon life’s journey. They are very special people!
The Board of Regents will rapidly and effectively move to establish strong interim and subsequently permanent system leadership. During this transition our campus will continue to strive for excellence and maintain our momentum. Our UNO community is very much a family, with strong values, a clear mission and a widely appreciated vision that solidly embraces true excellence and sustained future growth.
All such transitions are times of questions and uncertainty. We will strive to communicate clearly and frequently as this transition evolves. It will be particularly important that we continue to work closely together with our sister campuses and academic partners to strengthen the University of Nebraska system, to build upon our campus strengths and to stay highly focused on the incredible future that is before us. I know that we will, as this is the Maverick culture!
Most sincerely,
Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.
Chancellor
