Forbes Names UNO a Top 10 Nebraska Employer

OMAHA – The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) is one of the Top 10 Best Employers in Nebraska, according to research by Forbes.

More than 2,000 total faculty and staff members support the university’s mission in a supportive work environment that encourages their own transformation and professional development while they work to transform students. Employees take advantage of benefits such as the employee and dependent scholarship program, wellness and campus recreation offerings – including the new block membership for employees - the Employee Assistance Program, and flexible leave programs.

The list also speaks to the career opportunities available for UNO graduates in the Omaha area. Nebraska Medicine, the clinical partner of the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), took the top spot. Other top 10 employers include First National Bank of Omaha, Union Pacific, and Mutual of Omaha — all of which have headquarters established in the Omaha area.

The full list of 21 employers includes other major organizations in the Omaha area, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska, PayPal, and the United States Department of Defense at Offutt Air Force Base.

The University of Nebraska system is well represented and includes the only institutions of higher education in the state to make the list. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln appears in the top 10 in addition to UNO and Nebraska Medicine.

The list was compiled by market research firm Statista based on survey responses of 80,000 Americans who work for businesses with at least 500 employees. Respondents were asked to rate how likely they would be to recommend their employer to others and to nominate an employer in an industry outside their own.
