A Message On Inclusion
A message from UNO's senior leadership team.
- published: 2019/09/11
Dear Mavericks,
Welcome back to the start of a new semester here at UNO. We are consistently celebrating our students, faculty and staff and the growing diversity of our campus as seen in our latest enrollment statistics. Our varied backgrounds and experiences are part of what strengthens our learning environment and makes this campus special.
There are many different backgrounds, beliefs, experiences and ages represented on our campus and many, many different perspectives. Some of us are LGBTQIA+. Some of us are service members or veterans. Some of us are international students or scholars, with over 109 languages spoken on campus.
Let us be clear: you are all welcome here. We are glad you have chosen UNO and we want you to know you have a place here. Building an atmosphere of inclusivity takes all of us; it is also a continual effort. This important work must happen on a foundation of mutual respect and civility.
As we move further into the academic year, we encourage you to practice our value of inclusion. Ask yourself how you are showing respect and appreciation to others, how you are creating a space where everyone has a sense of belonging. Together, we are always better.
Thank you for being a part of our Maverick Family. Thank you for making sure all Mavericks know they are welcome in that family.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.
