Have you heard about CareeRockIt? CareeRockIt is an initiative of the Greater Omaha Chamber in partnership with countless community partners to connect students and young adults with opportunities to move along the learning pipeline, gain applicable knowledge and build excitement for growing career options, right here.
We are seeking departments who would like to host a small group of middle school or high school students for a hands-on preview of careers in your field of expertise. Do you have an awesome service project for kids? Can you teach some future Mavs to program a small robot? How about letting them help with a radio broadcast? Could a group of students learn what it’s like to be a police officer, by riding along with some of our own? What experiences would have inspired you to jump in, feet first, as a kid, and become involved in your community early?
An experience is an activity that exposes participants to a specific career, company or industry. Experience types range from job shadows, which work better for smaller groups or individuals, to tours and activities, which work well for medium to large size groups. Experiences should have clear learning objectives that relate to the job, industry or company that you are showcasing.
You have the opportunity to sign up for part day (1-3 hour) segments to host students Feb. 10 - 17, 2020. You can choose the times you are available, the dates, and how many or few students we can host. The plan is to start small, so we can get a feel for the process, but our capacity is dictated by what you have to offer.
What do you say? You wanna give it a go? What kind of experience would you love to share? How many kids and what ages do you think would be a perfect fit? Educators are signing their students up as we speak. We’ll be able to sign up and start selecting students in a few weeks.
Fill out the form and return it to Rachel Radel by Oct. 15, so we can start matching students to your department!
