Sara Martin, academic advisor for the Aviation Program within the College of Public Affairs and Community Service, was recently named October's “Awesome Advisor” by the Academic Advising Council (AAC). The award was presented to Sara at the monthly AAC meeting on Oct. 17, 2019.
Her nominator said, “Sara consistently demonstrates her passion and commitment to the success and well-being of our students in the Aviation Institute. She provides an important link between our students and our faculty. Students will confide in Sara about things they may not bring to me or my faculty colleagues. She always handles student concerns and issues with the utmost professionalism and is a master at using "tough love" when needed. Perhaps the most compelling reason for why Sara deserves this award is the evidence directly from our students. I conduct exit interviews with our graduating seniors each year. Among other things, I ask them what they have enjoyed most about their experience in the Aviation Institute and at UNO. The overwhelming and most popular response is that Sara Martin is awesome. The students use words like "wonderful" and "fantastic" and say that they would not have had the same quality experience or in some cases even finished their degrees had it not been for Sara's encouragement, honesty, and commitment. I should note that our program has grown substantially in recent years and we have added an additional concentration within our degree program. Like so many other advisors around campus, new reporting duties and other responsibilities have also been added to Sara's plate. Sara's passion and commitment to our students has not wavered at all. On behalf of my colleagues and our students, I am pleased to recommend Sara Martin for the Awesome Advisor Award.”
For being nominated as the AAC Awesome Advisor, Sara will receive a certificate and gift card to the UNO book store.
If you know one of your colleagues has gone above and beyond in their exceptional service to students, their colleagues and/or the university, nominate them for the Awesome Advisor Award.

About the "Awesome Advisor Award"
If you know one of your colleagues has gone above and beyond in their exceptional service to students, their colleagues and/or the university, nominate them for the Awesome Advisor Award! Each month, one advisor will be selected at random from the nominations to receive the award at the Academic Advising Council meeting. All nominees will be recognized by AAC for their work.
Nominees must be at least .5 FTE whose primary role is academic advising. Once selected, advisors would not be eligible to receive the award again for one calendar year, although they can still be nominated in recognition of their work.
