Each year, Civic Nebraska’s ‘Build Up Omaha’ awards recognize Omaha’s whose work embodies the spirit of a modern, robust democracy.
This year, we are pleased to share that Sara Woods, executive associate to the senior vice chancellor for community engagement as well as Ferial Pearson, assistant professor of teacher education in the College of Education will be recognized at the 2019 Build Up Omaha awards.
Woods has been a significant figure in Civic Nebraska’s rapid growth since 2013 when its Omaha office placed its headquarters in the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center. Woods was involved in the creation and development of the Center, which improves community access to the university and its services, events, and resources and delivers a full range of engagement activities.
Pearson is being recognized for bringing kindness and understanding to others through courageous speaking as well as a special ongoing project with her students. Pearson and her students started the “Secret Kindness Agents” following the Sandy Hook Elementary mass shooting in 2012. The group commits anonymous, random acts of kindness.
Woods and Pearson will be honored at the third annual Build Up Omaha celebration taking place Friday, Nov. 15, 2019.
Congratulations Sara and Ferial!
