Attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha has always been a dream for Yaqueline Cisneros. Thanks to UNO’s Maverick in the Making scholarship, that dream is one step closer to becoming a reality for the Bryan High School senior. For Cisneros, the $4,000 scholarship will serve as a springboard for her to become a leader.
“Knowing that UNO has already noticed me and I have this big opportunity to take chances means a lot to me,” Cisneros said.
She added that she’ll be coming to a place that she is comfortable.
“UNO has always been a campus where I felt at home,” she said. “Every time I’d take a step on a tour or take a step my own to wander around, it always felt familiar.”
Jennifer Cuddy, a literacy coach and National Honor Society Sponsor at Bryan High, saw leadership potential in Cisneros and nominated her for the award.
“She is community focused, she is academically strong, she is kind, she wants to not only be better herself, but make her community better as well,” Cuddy said.
Maverick in the Making recognizes high school seniors who have had a positive impact within their community by awarding them a scholarship to UNO for $4,000. Cisneros is the fourth Omaha area student to receive the honor.
If you know a future Maverick who is making a difference in their community, UNO accepts nominations year-round.
