In an effort to ensure affordability and accessibility for undergraduate students and their families, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) announced today a significant tuition rate reduction for in-state students taking online courses*.
The new rate will take effect in time for Fall 2020 courses. It will reduce UNO’s resident online tuition rate to $259 per credit hour*; a move that would provide in-state students with significant savings for a three or four-credit hour online course. This new online rate will greatly benefit students at UNO, of whom more than half traditionally take at least one online course each semester.
"As we continue to navigate these unusual times, we want to ensure that we are reducing as many barriers as we can to keep our promise of access to exceptional opportunities at UNO," Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. said. "I want our returning and prospective students, and their families, to know that we are committed to you and promise to be partners in your higher education journey."
Additionally, UNO has created reduced rates for non-Nebraska residents through the Metropolitan Advantage Program (MAP). UNO offers residents of several southwestern Iowa counties the opportunity to attend on-campus courses at UNO at lower rates. This program was recently extended to include online offerings for Summer 2020 and the rate reduction will follow suit.
This is the latest of many moves UNO has made to institute programs that provide enhanced access and affordability by reducing costs for students to begin or continue their education.
The Nebraska Promise program provides free tuition to students who meet academic and family income qualifications. In addition, $5.3 million in federal funds received from the U.S. Department of Education CARES Act Higher Education Relief Fund is also being distributed to students in need.
Recently announced incentive programs like the Faculty and Maverick Scholarships, Jump Start Scholarship and the Healthcare Heroes Package provide cost savings and incentives for new Mavericks to begin their educational journey. Additional information on these programs can be found on UNO’s Admissions website.
