The transition from Box to Microsoft’s suite of tools for files and data storage, including OneDrive and SharePoint, is well underway. Individual file storage will reside in OneDrive, with SharePoint holding departmental and collaborative data.
No new files will be allowed to be uploaded into Box after May 16, 2021.
If you haven’t already, we encourage you to get started making the move to Microsoft storage today. Individuals can opt in to using OneDrive now by filling out this form. Departments who are ready to make the move to SharePoint are encouraged to work with their College/Department Technology Support to identify a migration date during the Spring 2021 semester.
Faculty, if you link to Box content in a current Spring Canvas course, we recommend that you contact an instructional designer (uno.its.digitallearning@unomaha.edu) prior to opting in to Microsoft storage.
Additional information on the move from Box to OneDrive/SharePoint can be found at its.nebraska.edu/box.
How to Find OneDrive
Log in now to Microsoft’s Portal using your NetID
Use the “waffle” in the top left and and on the left navigation bar to find the OneDrive application.
You can also find the login information at office365.unomaha.edu.
My Page
The my page has been revised to now include not only the Box login but also the new Microsoft file and data storage options, as well.
Transition Timeline
Here is some other important information about the Microsoft transition timeline:
-
Box accounts will no longer be automatically created for new users after Fall 2020; Box accounts can be requested as needed by filling out this Box Request Form.
-
Starting Spring 2021 ITS will be communicating timelines for specific group - users can request to move early by filling out this Microsoft opt-in form.
-
Departments are encouraged to work with their College/Department Technology Support to identify a migration date for Spring 2021.
-
No new data uploaded to Box after May 16, 2021.
-
Box will be decommissioned on Dec. 31, 2021.
-
Starting January 2022, Microsoft’s suite of OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams will be the university’s preferred general-purpose storage and collaboration tool.
Besides the benefit of using a storage solution that aligns with Microsoft services already used by the University, Box is dramatically raising its prices and ending its unlimited storage offering. After January 2022, Microsoft’s suite of OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams will be the University’s preferred general-purpose storage and collaboration tool.
ITS will continue to provide updates throughout the migration process. Additional information can be found at its.nebraska.edu/box. If you have any questions, email ITS at support@nebraska.edu.
