Results of a new nationwide survey of businesses with at least 500 employees place the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) among the top 20 employers in the state of Nebraska.
UNO comes in ranked No. 17 – the highest ranking for any institution of higher education in the state – in the ranking of “America’s Best Employers by State,” which is compiled and published by Forbes and Statista. This is the second consecutive year that UNO has been ranked in the top 20.
“UNO is home to more than 2,000 faculty and staff that make UNO such a thriving campus community,” Aileen Warren, associate vice chancellor and director of Human Resources said. “Our workforce is operating differently than ever before due to COVID-19, but our team at UNO has exemplified the Maverick Spirit in how they have risen to new challenges and adapted to meet them head on.”
A number of large employers and major organizations that call the Omaha area home and provide career opportunities for UNO graduates are also represented on the list. These include names like TD Ameritrade, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska, Kiewit Corporation, First National Bank of Omaha and Mutual of Omaha, to name a few.
Other institutions within the University of Nebraska System are also represented on the list. The University of Nebraska – Lincoln is ranked No. 26 and Nebraska Medicine, hospital partner to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, is ranked No. 11.
This year’s full list includes 40 employers from across the state. The rankings were compiled by surveying 80,000 Americans who work for businesses and organizations that employ at least 500 people. Significant variations in results were accounted for as the survey was conducted before and after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The full list and additional information about the survey’s methodology can be found on the Forbes website.
