Kirsten Case Fuller, community liaison for the Service Learning Academy at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), is the latest Maverick to receive the Kudos award from the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.
The award was presented to Case Fuller, virtually, at the meeting of the Board of Regents held on Friday, Aug. 14.
Kirsten goes above and beyond to bring the metropolitan mission to life at UNO. Realizing it’s something that takes time and patience, she works tirelessly to create authentic partnerships between UNO faculty and community organizations.
In 2019, she worked with approximately 125 community organizations to develop 208 service learning courses at UNO; a record number offered at the university that simply would not have been possible without Kirsten’s work.
She also co-teaches and mentors students in multiple programs at UNO. Through her own creativity and strong community relationships, Kirsten has created a rigorous curriculum that connects students with internship opportunities that are meaningful, and in some cases, life changing.
Kirsten is not only dedicated to UNO students, but also serves her colleagues on the UNO campus in significant ways. She is a member of the Staff Advisory Council and is one of the first cohorts of trainers for the micro-aggressions training group. She has also worked with the Service Learning Academy team to provide strong implicit bias and equity work. More recently, she has accepted an opportunity to serve in the first LEADiversity cohort for individuals interested in examining and addressing diversity, inclusion and equity in their work.
Outside of the UNO campus, Kirsten was recently named the first ever female board chair of the Omaha Home for Boys, serves as a mentor for young leaders, and a trainer for the Nonprofit Association of the Midlands.
