The University of Nebraska has announced that it is following the State of Nebraska and other employers in not participating in the deferral of employee Social Security taxes through the end of the year.
The plan, which was authorized in an Aug. 8, 2020, presidential memorandum, would have deferred employee Social Security taxes from September through December of 2020 and then collected in January through April of 2021, meaning employees would have double deductions applied in the first four months of 2021.
This decision covers all employees who pay Social Security taxes as part of their employment with UNO.
There will not be an option for individual employees to opt into this deferral plan.
