Mavericks head coach Evan Porter announced the 2021 baseball schedule, the first season at the new Tal Anderson Field, on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
The defending Summit League Champions are scheduled to play 21 home games in the new ballpark this spring while hosting the 2021 Summit League Championships at the conclusion of the regular season on May 26-29.
In their first home game at Tal Anderson Field, the Mavericks will take on crosstown rivals the Creighton Bluejays, March 5-7. Prior to that, Omaha begins the 53-game schedule on the road the first two weekends. The Mavericks travel to Oregon (Feb. 19-21) and Missouri (Feb. 26-28) with a four-game series against both Power Five opponents.
"We are looking forward to getting our season started here in three weeks," said Porter. "This season brings a lot of excitement as we open up our new ballpark at Tal Anderson Field while competing against our challenging schedule. It's been a long off-season and 2021 Opening Day can't come soon enough as we can't wait to get back on the field together."
The 2021 slate features 21 non-conference games with six different opponents. The Mavericks will play a four-game home-and-home series against each Summit League foe with a doubleheader on Friday and single games on Saturday and Sunday.
Following the three-game home series against Creighton on March 5-7, Omaha continues its non-conference slate with a four-game series at Kansas (March 12-14) and opens Summit League play vs. South Dakota State (March 19-21).
The Mavericks step out of conference action with a three-game series at Wichita State (March 26-28) before hosting North Dakota State (April 2-4) and venturing to South Dakota State (April 9-11).
Omaha hosts BYU in a three-game non-conference series on April 15-17 and return to conference action on the road at Oral Roberts (April 23-25).
The Mavericks welcome Western Illinois (April 30-May 2) and head north to Fargo to take on North Dakota State (May 7-9) before hosting Oral Roberts (May 14-16) and concluding the regular season at Western Illinois (May 20-22).
Omaha hosts the 2021 Summit League Championships at Tal Anderson Field on May 26-29.
