Vickie Stone, International Studies academic advisor was recently named “Advisor of the Month” by the Academic Advising Council (AAC) for the month of July.
The award was presented to Vickie at the monthly AAC meeting on July 15.
Her nominator said, "I work with Vickie frequently, because International Studies majors study abroad in significant numbers. She is always wonderful to work with when students are trying to select a study abroad program, while they are abroad changing classes, and on their return when we need to transfer the credit in. I recently hosted an online alumni panel for students who studied in Asia, and all three panelists had happened to work with Vickie due to their major or minor. One student said he had not worked with her before going abroad, but she made it so easy to add the minor and make it work with his plans. Another said how much she loved Vickie's emails, mentioning that they were long, BUT they always had all the information she needed. She said she almost never had follow-up questions after an email from Vickie because the messages are so thorough and gave her all she needed. I truly think Vickie is an awesome advisor, and the fact that her students brought her up when I asked about their academics abroad and completely unprompted praised her for a few minutes and agreed how much they all liked working with her goes to show that her students think she is awesome too!”
For being nominated as the AAC Advisor of the Month, Stone will receive a certificate and gift card to the UNO Bookstore.
Nominate an Advisor for the "Advisor of the Month Award"
If you know one of your colleagues has gone above and beyond in their exceptional service to students, their colleagues and/or the university, nominate them for the Advisor of the Month Award! Each month, one advisor will be selected at random from the nominations to receive the award at the Academic Advising Council meeting. All nominees will be recognized by AAC for their work.
Nominees must be at least .5 FTE whose primary role is academic advising. Once selected, advisors would not be eligible to receive the award again for one calendar year, although they can still be nominated in recognition of their work.
