UNO Names Grant Hilgenkamp Employee of the Month

Grant Hilgenkamp, technical director for UNO Theatre, has been named UNO's Employee of the month for July 2021.

Hilgenkamp was surprised by the UNO Celebration Committee on Wednesday, July 14, to celebrate the occasion.

In his nomination, Hilgenkamp's ability to work with students and help them overcome fears or anxieties they may have was spotlighted.

"Grant is exceptional at reaching students on their individual level, often fighting through their own fears of power tools, fear of heights, etc. and creates trust," his nominator stated.

As technical director, Hilgenkamp helps create and maintain a safe working environment for students and staff in the UNO Theatre scene shop and during theatre productions.

"Grant has created a welcoming and safe environment that far exceeds expectations," his nomination reads.

One of the biggest successes of the past year for UNO Theatre was the rebuilding of a technology booth that became damaged after severe weather flooded part of the UNO Theatre space. Hilgenkamp played a vital role in making sure the equipment could be replaced and restored for students to use and train on.

"He and I have spent this year building, researching, ordering and installing all of the new equipment," his nominator states. "He did all of this in addition to helping our program transition our productions through the pandemic. He is most deserving of this recognition."

For being awarded as Employee of the Month, Hilgenkamp will receive a certificate, hot/cold tumbler, monetary award, two tickets to a UNO sporting event and use of a designated parking space.
