Flag Lowering for Mary Lickteig
The UNO flag will be lowered on Thursday, Aug. 19, in memory of Lickteig, who passed away on Aug. 6, 2021, at the age of 85.

The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) flag will be lowered on Thursday, Aug. 19, in memory of UNO retiree Mary Lickteig.
Mary passed away on Aug. 6, 2021, at the age of 85. In her time at UNO, Mary worked as a professor of education for 30 years, from 1967 until her retirement in 1997.
Born in Lu Verne, Iowa, Mary was also a UNO alumna, earning a Master's Degree before going on to earn a Doctorate of Education from the University of Oregon. In addition to teaching at UNO, she was an elementary school teacher in multiple Iowa cities.
Mary was preceeded in death by her parents Ambrose and Rose; her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Paul Elbert; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Helen Lickteig; and brother Timothy Lickteig. She is survived by her sister, Sr. Mary Joan Lickteig; and her brother and sister-in-law Donald and Evelyn Lickteig. She is also survived by 12 neices and nephews and their spouses; and 23 grandnieces and grand nephews.
A celebration of life for Mary will be held at the Thompson Alumni Center on Sunday, Sep. 5.
