Forbes Magazine has named the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) as one of the top 10 employers in the state of Nebraska for the second time in three years.
The 2021 Forbes listing marks a return to the top 10. UNO was ranked ninth in the state overall and in the top five in the city of Omaha. This is the third year in a row that UNO has been included on the list.
“I have been truly impressed and amazed by the hardworking, innovative culture of the faculty and staff who make UNO such an incredible place for our students,” UNO Chancellor Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA said. “Their collaborative Maverick Spirit and drive are the backbone of this institution, and I am grateful to have such an amazing team that is dedicated to the mission of this university and the success of our students.”
UNO finds itself alongside good company including several organizations partnering with the university to improve their workforce through the university’s Career Currency program. Unlike traditional employer reimbursed education programs, the Career Currency program enables employees of partner organizations to gain new skills and pursue degrees without having to pay tuition upfront. Participating organizations including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska, Mutual of Omaha, and First National Bank of Omaha were also named to the list of best employers in Nebraska.
This listing was created through a survey of 80,000 U.S. employees across 25 industry sectors. Statista collected direct recommendations from UNO employees as well as indirect recommendations from workers across the state. The full rankings can be found on the Forbes website.
The survey considered every aspect of an employee’s experience such as working conditions, salary, the potential for growth, and diversity. Of the thousands of companies eligible for this recognition, only a select few are awarded in each state.
