University of Nebraska at Omaha Chancellor Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA, announced today that Vice Chancellor for Business, Finance, and Business Development Doug Ewald will step down from his role effective Oct. 31.
Ewald, who holds the same position with the University of Nebraska Medical Center and has served in the current role with UNO since 2018, will assume the role of executive associate athletic director and chief financial officer within the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Athletic Department.
“Vice Chancellor Ewald’s leadership, insight, and decades of experience in his field will be missed as he takes on an exciting opportunity with our sister campus in Lincoln,” Li said. “He has helped navigate our campus through recent financial hurdles and built a solid financial foundation that our university will use to build on for the benefit of our students, faculty, staff, and our community of Omaha.”
Ewald, who stepped into his UNO role in August 2018, has overseen all budget, finance, operational, and administrative services, as well as all business development activities, in support of the Chancellor. He earned a master’s degree in professional accounting from UNO in 1989 and served as a graduate assistant for the College of Business Administration (CBA). He is an active member in the CBA alumni community and is an active member on the college’s accounting advisory board.
“It has been an honor and a pleasure to give back to the university that gave me so much during my years as a student,” Ewald said. “I want to thank the hundreds of staff members I have had the privilege of working alongside for their support for this university’s mission. Every challenge we overcame and every opportunity we capitalized on together has positioned UNO to be a major factor in our state’s future.”
