Celebrating Our Newest Alumni
For 1,851 students, Friday marked the end of one important journey and the beginning of a new chapter in each of their lives. With family, friends, and thousands of other alumni behind them, it was clear to see that once you're a Maverick, you're always a Maverick.

Hundreds of students and their families, friends, and supporters were greeted with a gorgeous spring day as the Maverick community came together to support the newest graduating class of the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Made up of future teachers, doctors, computer scientists, actors, writers, social workers, fire fighters, pilots, and dozens of other members of the newest generation of the Nebraska workforce, the successes of the Class of 2022 were on full display at Baxter Arena.
More than 1,400 students across six academic colleges, including dozens of graduate programs, were in attendance to be recognized and join the ranks of the more than 120,000 current Maverick alumni across the world.
“When you encounter a challenge, you have two ways to respond: either face it or avoid it,” Chancellor Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA, told the crowd at Friday’s May 2022 Commencement ceremonies. “Many might choose to do nothing. But that is not who we are. We Mavericks forge a path forward by tackling challenges directly. Always remember that forging new paths requires us to work together, hand in hand. That is the Maverick way”
As with any graduating class, every individual graduate’s story is unique.
From first-generation students to multi-generation Mavericks.
From scholarship winners to engaged scholars.
From Gen-Z to Baby Boomers.
There is no one definition of what a “Maverick” is, but there is a uniting Maverick spirit that guides each member of the Class of 2022.
