The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) flag will be lowered on Tuesday, March 14, in memory of emeritus retiree Janet West, who recently passed away at the age of 82.
Janet started her career at UNO in 1967, retiring as Assistant Professor of Economics on Sept. 1, 2012.
She is survived by sons, Michael West (Laurie), David West (Patti), and George Achola (Melissa); daughters, Jami Rost (Kevin), and Carole West; brothers, Franklin Mason (Christina), and James Mason; sister, Vivi Scandone (John); and grandchildren: LaIsha, Jamal, Kylie, Trevor, Tyler, Thomas, Elizabeth, Jack, Johnny, Rachel, Schuyler, and Nathaniel.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, March 31, at 4 P.M. at the First Unitarian Church of Omaha, located at 3114 Harney St. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to NPR, The Southern Poverty Law Center, or the Human Rights Campaign.
The thoughts and condolences of the university community are with Janet's loved ones during this time.
